It is a shame you have have to get thought provoking commentary from a comedy show, but that’s what HBO and John Oliver provide. He’s infamous for crashing to comment servers of the FCC and providing just about the only commentary on the recent Indian elections.

Last night’s program was all about the use of drones by the U.S. military. In his normal comedic takedown, he makes you think while laughing at the absurdity of it all.

“When children from other countries are telling us that we’ve made them fear the sky,” Oliver remarked, “it might be time to ask some hard questions.”

Think you’ll hear that on the cable networks? No, it’s a steady of diet of whether Attorney General Eric Holder was the best AG ever (MSNBC) or the most evil person ever to run the DOJ (Fox). CNN? At least you get to see what wild concoction of food Anthony Bourdain is eating. As for news, it’s CNN. What can you honestly expect?

The video below clocks in at around 12 minutes and probably provides the most commentary you’ll hear on the use of drones by the U.S. military. Oh, and it asks the burning question of why we aren’t talking about Beck being a scientologist.
