Update: Hoops trailer.
Millions more are embracing the awesomeness that is Rocket League. 14 million players and counting are pulling off amazing shots, or missing the easiest ones ever. Hey, it happens to all of us. The important part is you’re having fun. And that’s what Rocket League is. Pure fun. Whenever I’m getting sick of The Division’s grind, I just toss on Rocket League and have a blast.
Here’s the tweet announcing the new milestone and thanking all their fans.
Fantastic news! Rocket League has now passed 14 million players. Our gratitude is real. Thank you very much, everyone!

How fast is Rocket League still growing? The 14 million player figure is up 2 million from 12 million at the end of February. That doesn’t mean 14 million sales. Because Rocket League offers split-screen play, every single PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Gamertag is counted. Plus, Rocket League was offered for free during its launch month on PS4 last year. Yeah, that was the best free game PS4 owners will probably ever get.
So where does that put sales? The last hard numbers we have are 4 million copies across PS4 and PC at the end of February. Since then, the Xbox One version has launched. While it doesn’t have as many players as PC and PS4, I always see at least 10-15k playing at any given point on Xbox One. I imagine a nice chunk of the 2 million new players bought the game. If they didn’t, what the hell is wrong with them?
What’s coming in Rocket League?
Another crossover is in the works. Fans of Euro Truck Simulator and American Truck Simulator will soon be able to sport a Rig Antenna on their car. Damn, and here I was hoping for some big rigs to make it to Rocket League.
Euro Truck Simulator gets an Octane Battle-Car dashboard toy and a Rocket League ball to hang in the rearview mirror.
But, where’s basketball? That’s what all the Rocket League fans want to know. As far as I know, Psyonix is still aiming for an April release. They have about ten days left. What we do know is a Hoops (that’s the name of the basketball mode) trailer is coming today with release date info and something unannounced.
Didn’t mention it on official @RocketLeague channels, but expect Hoops trailer tomorrow w/ release date and previously-unknown tidbit 🙂
