Sigh… The award for most disappointing video game news today goes to Microsoft. About a year ago, Microsoft confirmed a mobile version of Age of Empires was in the works. Today, we find out the title will hit iOS, Android and Windows Phone stores this summer.

Mobile players can pre-register now for access to exclusive updates about AoE: World Domination.

The AoE: World Domination trailer below promises the power of the world “within your grasp” and advanced battle tactics “with simple and intuitive touch gestures.” These marketing phrases were met with disdain from gamers. Check out the YouTube video to see how the community is reacting. The number of dislikes on the trailer far outweigh the likes.

In AoE: World Domination, you will take on the roles of King Arthur and the Celts, Vikings Cnut the Great, Joan of Arc and the Franks and Attila the Hun. More than 100 other legendary heroes are said to be included.

There are reasons to be optimistic, though. I know what you’re thinking. ‘How can I be optimistic when one of the best RTS franchises of all time is heading to mobile?’ One reason. Autumn Dynasty. The gameplay in the trailer below reminds me a bit of Autumn Dynasty, a mobile RTS game. Think Total War on a mobile device.

If you haven’t played Autumn Dynasty before, check it out. It’s free and it’s one of the better mobile games out there.
