Altec Lansing’s Mini Lifejacket 2 Bluetooth speaker won’t account for your taste in music, but it can make that Alabama loss to Ole Miss a bit easier to take. Fire up that sad playlist on Spotify and try to forget Saturday.
The speaker makes for a great tailgate or BBQ partner. Will it impress your audiophile friend? No, but ask yourself if he’s ever been impressed with anything? Exactly…
Altec’s Mini Lifejacket 2 keeps your guest entertained while you work the grill. Or you can sit back and be the DJ and let someone else cook. Your call. A nice bonus? It passes the Alabama drop test. If it’s on the corner, someone is knocking it off.
No, that doesn’t mean you can back over it with your truck after a heartbreaking loss. But falling off your porch? It can handle that. Knocked off the picnic table? No problem. Wipe it off and keep the music going.
Set Up Is Simple
Have a smartphone? Turn on Bluetooth if you haven’t already. Hold the power button for 2 seconds and the speaker will announce it is paired. Volume and song selection are controlled via the Volume + or – buttons. Hold for two seconds to advance or go back in your playlist.
Press and hold the volume buttons to increase or decrease the volume. The person screaming ‘play Freebird?’ That’s on you for inviting him.
Battery and Everything Proof
Charging the unit can take up to three hours, but gives you 10 hours of music. Your iPhone will die before the speaker will.
I already touched on the drop test. It handles falls with ease. The Mini Lifejacket 2 is also waterproof and sand proof. It’ll even float if it tumbles off the boat.
Need to take a call? It doubles as a hands-free speakerphone. Hit ignore and call the person back later. No one wants to listen to your phone conversation. But, if you’re the type that likes using your outside voice on the phone, it gives you that option.
What’s in the Box
We know you can toss it around, drop it off the porch and the boat. But what if you don’t want to be the one picked to jump in the water to grab it? Each speaker comes with a mount that attaches to an ATV, fence or a railing on your boat.
The directions are pretty straightforward. Attach the speaker to the tripod mount and use the included Allen wrench.
If you’re in the market for a Bluetooth speaker that can take a beating, the Mini Lifejacket 2 fills that need. I was pleasantly surprised with the audio quality considering the size, and it’s Bluetooth. Is it perfect sound quality? No, but you are rocking to Spotify playlists. Top of the line audio quality was never in the cards.
Where the Mini Lifejacket 2 shines is the rugged factor. If you’re camping, at a tailgate party or just a family BBQ, it will inevitably get dropped. It shrugs off the drop and keeps the music going.
Pricing is reasonable for the features. You can get it at Target for right at $100. A quick check shows the majority of Target stores keep it in stock. The speaker also ships free.
One thing Altec could do without? The introduction every time it is paired. It can get annoying after a bit.
Color options are set at Aqua and Red. Adding some additional color options would be nice, but the lack of color choices isn’t a dealbreaker.
Durable. Portable. Quality sound. You can’t ask much more from a Bluetooth speaker.
