Well, get your popcorn ready. The first official trailer for American Sniper, starring Bradley Cooper, has released. It tells the story of the most lethal sniper in U.S. history. Chris Kyle, a Navy SEAL, was deployed to Iraq four times to provide sniper cover for patrols and convoys.

The trailer is up there as one of the most gripping. You’re not going to see explosions or anything in the way of action. No, you see Cooper as Kyle in his sniper hide, monitoring a US patrol convoy.

It is officially Oscar season, and the movie tells the tales of the snap judgement that the SEAL sniper had to make. In the trailer, he sees a woman and a child, and his command controller releases him to make the determination on whether to shoot.

His spotter sums up the dilemma of the situation. “They fry you if you’re wrong.” Chris Kyle became known throughout the ranks of the United States military, saving the lives of countless soldiers. His identity was learned by the other side, with insurgents placing a bounty on his head.

To get in the running for an Oscar, the film will debut as a limited release on December 25, and will go wide on January 16. The film is being directed by Clint Eastwood. Check out the trailer below.
