First it was Star Wars. Now, it’s Transformers. When will Rovio stop?
Today, the Finnish game developer Rovio, announced it’s joining up with Hasbro again for a new addition to the popular bird-slinging franchise. Meet Angry Birds Transformers.
“This mash-up is going to appeal to those who grew up with the brand in the 80s as well as fans of the brand today” said Rovio Chief Marketing Officer Blanca Juti in a statement. “People are going to live it!” Whatever you say.
Details on the game are pretty much non-existent. Though, I would imagine it won’t deviate from Rovio’s winning formula too much. Hasbro promises a line of products later this year that will feature its Telepods technology. Basically, a cute word for letting you ‘teleport’ your favorite Angry Birds Transformer toys into the game. Think Skylanders’ from Activision.
No word on a release date either other than “coming soon.” It’s not too much of a stretch to say it’s coming this month. The movie, Transformers: Age of Extinction, hits theaters on June 27.
Besides pushing out franchise-themed Angry Birds titles, Rovio also tried something new with Angry Birds Epic. Released last week, Epic is a role-playing game featuring familiar faces from the Angry Birds franchise.
Rovio is planning on releasing yet another Angry Birds spinoff in September. This one will feature a pink-feathered fowl named Stella.
