Assassin’s Creed Unity is Ubisoft’s break with the consoles of yesterday, and brings the French Revolution to the next generation. The studio has confirmed that the game will be on the Xbox One, PS4 and Windows only for the holiday season. Owners of the new consoles will have their cake.

One good thing about Assassin’s Creed is that the setting constantly changes. The franchise has gone the way of Call of Duty with releases every year. Yet, with the games switching locales and geopolitical settings, it feels fresh. Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be the 7th game in the console series.

Along with the announcement came a teaser trailer. Said to be rendered completely in game and ‘alpha’ footage, Assassin’s shows that it ages well on the next generation of consoles. Clocking in at a minute, the teaser shows Paris in the midst of the French revolution. It will be interesting to see if this game stays focused on just the French Revolution or the rise of Napoleon out of the Revolution.

There is enough historical material just in this small timeframe for multiple games, and that may be the goal of Ubisoft. Multiple revolutions inside France and the Napoleonic Wars. If you are a history fan, the time period was rife with political struggles between the opposing sides.

The bonus is that the focus on next-gen means the game will look gorgeous. Black Flag had to deal with the cross generation builds, and the team couldn’t hone in on one. Now we get to see what one of the marquee console titles will look like when Ubisoft devotes its time to the Xbox One and PS4 exclusively.
