Battlefield V: Firestorm will hit that March release date DICE was targeting when it was first announced. On March 25, 64 players will drop into the biggest Battlefield map ever in solo and squad matches. Duos are coming in April. Let’s check out the trailer.

It’s light on gameplay, but still a fun trailer. The opening sequence is fantastic and oozes Bad Company vibes.

The rest of the trailer takes us through various gameplay scenarios — tractors pulling huge cannons, boats that can drive on land, and yes – helicopters. I’ll be there on day one for the helicopters. It’s been too long since Battlefield fans could go ‘Airwolf.’ I’ll never understand why EA doesn’t reboot the ‘Strike’ series. I would be all over a helicopter game made by the folks who did Battlefield 4’s helicopter gameplay.

A massive wall of fire keeps us moving towards the final circle. A swirling firestorm combined with Battlefield’s destruction will look amazing. While it appears to chew right through the landscape, it won’t be instant death for us. We see one of the final players running through it near the end of the trailer.

The Firestorm splash page on EA’s website also implies that a respawn mechanic is not making its way to the mode. “There are no second chances in Firestorm.” I get that it doesn’t make the most sense setting wise, but Apex Legends shows how good the gameplay mechanic works.

No one wants to sit around and watch their friends play while they’re dead. I can’t count the number of times in PUBG or Fortnite where my squad would agree to back out if one of us died early. Apex Legends changed that. Plus, it’s awesome watching your last squadmate take out enemies before respawning the rest of the team. It could make for perfect ‘Battlefield’ moments.

As for price? Firestorm is included in the overall Battlefield V package. It won’t be free to play. You still need to own Battlefield V – whether that’s buying a copy or subscribing via Origin Access.

I don’t know if Firestorm will replace Apex Legends, but I’m excited to jump in a helicopter and find out.
