This is sure to boost sales. Bethesda Softworks will offer beta access to its new Doom game to those that pre-order Wolfenstein: The New Order. Much like how the Halo 3 beta boosted sales of Crackdown, Bethesda is hoping for a similar situation here.
Hopefully, Wolfenstein: The New Order turns out the be just as great as Crackdown was.
Some may worry that the inclusion of a Doom beta means Wolfenstein: The New Order can’t stand on its own. It’s more of a marketing ploy to boost Wolfenstein sales and start building hype for a new Doom game.
There is one problem with offering beta access as a pre-order incentive. Once these betas actually happen, they tend to be open. Thus, the incentive actually means nothing. We’ll see how this one shakes out.
No dates or details about the Doom beta have been released according to a FAQ on Wolfenstein’s official site. As of now, the only way to get in is by pre-ordering Wolfenstein: The New Order.
Besides announcing Doom beta access for those that pre-order, Bethesda also announced a release date for Wolfenstein: The New Order. You’ll be back to fighting Nazis on May 20th.
Check out the new trailer showing off your friends and foes below. Wolfenstein: The New Order is looking decent and should help stave off the usual summer drought of video game releases.
