I hope you like the recent shift in the console FPS genre. The Call of Duty: Black Ops III trailer is here, and it looks more frenetic than ever. Every year I tell myself I’m getting tired of Call of Duty, and every year I get pumped again.
So, what do you think? Poor Titanfall was just a year or so ahead of its time.
Let’s go through the trailer.
First up, you can never go wrong with The Rolling Stones’ Paint it Black in your trailer.
We then see our character dive through the water and shoot a bad guy, jump out, his arm transforms into another gun and takes out another bad guy.
Then, the character deploys a set of small drones that burns up a few more bad guys.
Oh look, an Assassin’s Creed crossover.
The crouch slide makes an appearance.
So far, it’s looking like a Call of Duty game.
And, then BAM!
Titanfall baby. Wall running is in for the next Call of Duty game.
There’s also quite a few robots getting taken out in the trailer.
I believe we are getting our first glimpse of the four-player co-op campaign during this part of the trailer. Watch from 1:10-1:12.
And, it wouldn’t be a Treyarch Call of Duty game without a bow.
Fans looking for a return to the old-school Call of Duty will need to keep looking. I thought last year’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was a breath of fresh air. Plus, anything would have been better than Call of Duty: Ghosts.
I’m willing to give Treyarch the benefit of the doubt. Black Ops 1 and 2 were awesome. Plus, there’s a beta. It will probably be a glorified demo, but at least we all get to try it out before it releases (if you preorder).
The trailer offers just a snapshot of gameplay. We don’t know how prevalent wall running is. Does it have a cooldown? Is it only used on a particular part of the map? The trailer has plenty of action, but we didn’t get a long enough look at anything.
Now, bring on the multiplayer footage. Several YouTubers played the multiplayer. Check out what one of them thought here.
What do you think of the first trailer? Do you like the deeper push into fast-paced gameplay? Or, dream of COD4, Black Ops 2? Let me know in the comments below.
