Welp, the first Challenger Hellcat sold in Colorado didn’t last long on the road. It appears the brand new owner of the 707 HP beast managed just an hour before wrecking the car. Thankfully, no one was injured in the crash.
Here’s the incident report from the Colorado State Patrol (TFLCar also breaks down where the wreck took place):
The 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat driver, 34-year-old Lance Utley of Winter Park, CO, was traveling northbound on Riverdale Rd. The driver lost control to the right, then overcorrected and lost control to the left, and struck a tree head on. There were two additional occupants in the vehicle. The driver was charged with careless driving. Drugs or alcohol were not involved. There was no mention of excessive speeding. All three occupants were unhurt.
‘No mention of excessive speeding?’ I doubt the owner was adhering to road rules. C’mon, I know I wouldn’t. Just bought a 707 HP Challenger Hellcat? I’m looking for the first straight away or stretch of road with no cars to tear it up. We all would. Lance just happened to be the unlucky one to put it into a tree.
Here’s a video from Winding Road Magazine showing off a POV test drive of the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.
If you find yourself with $60,000 and want to blow it on a Challenger Hellcat, at least take it easy for the first few hours. We all would want to put the pedal to the floor. But, realize how much HP is under the hood. It’s a lesson Lance learned the hard way.
