Buy, Buy, Buy has turned into drive, drive, drive. CNBC, the business network, is ripping a page out the Discovery Channel’s playbook. Your core audience are fans of educational content? Not anymore. Reality show baby.
Jay Leno, who ended his Tonight Show run in February, will be bringing his Jay Leno’s Garage web series, to CNBC primetime. The show is set to debut in 2015. Fans of the series are probably wondering what’s the channel number for CNBC. Here in Alabama, it’s channel 35.
Yeah, it’s mildly entertaining to watch on days the stock market is collapsing triple digits. They literally go nuts on the floor the stock exchange.
Jay Leno is returning to the network after hosting a one-hour special in August. Jay Leno’s Garage: The Ultimate Car Week marked his first return to hosting duties. He has always loved cars, and has one of the more extensive collections.
CNBC has always been lagging when it comes to primetime. Some will look at it and go why on CNBC? It’s a gamble, but it also represents an area that isn’t diluted. It could bring back some of CNBC viewers that have left the network since the financial crisis. They can push their market programming on a demo that is going to skew decidedly older.
“This show will be about anything that rolls, explodes and makes noise,” said Leno in a release from CNBC.
It also puts Leno into a program that he absolutely loves. Cars and more cars. Hopefully they keep his web series up on NBC.com. CNBC will probably take any shot in the ratings arm they can get at this point.
