There is a new headphone player in town, and it is making some bold promises. The Dash headphones come with enough features, they are taking wearable technology and making it practical. Fitness enthusiasts will love the feature set if they deliver on the promise. The creators initially set the Kickstarter goal at $260,000, but it has since blown past that goal, and stands at nearly $1.2 million with 44 days to go. Needless to say, it’s a hit without even being out yet.
The product comes packed with your standard headphones, but that’s where the similarities stop. It adds vital sign tracking, including oxygen saturation, heart rate, body temperature and calories burned. It offers real-time audio feedback. Best of all, you don’t need to carry your smartphone with you. You can upload your playlist to the 4GB onboard flash storage.
For those needing to take calls, the headphones act as a bluetooth headset with an ear bone mic. It is a bit absurd the amount of features packed into one device. The creators promise that the device will sync up with 3rd party tracking apps, and expect developers to develop apps around it.
The headphones will be compatible with iPhones 4S and up and Android devices with Bluetooth 4.0 LE. Limited support will be given to Windows Phone and Blackberry.
For now, the unknown is will the device work as promised? Lots of features and the delivery date is set for October 2014. It would be an interesting pairing if the Apple iWatch and these headphones hit the market around the same time.
