Like many of you, when I first heard DOOM was coming in 2016 – I was pumped. What sold me the most was the SnapMap feature. We’re now only two months away, and Bethesda dropped an official multiplayer trailer.
Awesome music? Check. Fast-paced, arena-style gameplay? Check. Epic announcer? Eh, not so much. I’m going to touch on the announcer in just a second, but let’s finish off the trailer.
It looks like the developers are going with customizable characters in multiplayer.
You can see how the first character walking through the doorway has an orange and white color scheme. The character behind him appears to be all white.
Here’s another capture from the trailer showing different headpieces on the two blue characters. The shoulder pieces also look slightly different.
The preorder bonuses back this up.
We also see the Hack Module feature in action. Here’s one the player deploys that lets you see enemies through walls.
I’m not a big fan of any feature that lets you see enemies through walls. But, DOOM’s faster gameplay shouldn’t make it that big of a deal.
Here’s what appears to be another Hack Module. You can see the hologram character running towards the enemies on the left side of the image.
And finally, we see two versions of demons. Both look like they are a blast to play.
The DOOM multiplayer announcer
The trailer was hitting all the right notes until I heard ‘Triple Kill.’ What the hell was that? It’s nearly as jarring as Destiny’s multiplayer announcer.
Many of the great classic shooters have fantastic voice announcers.
Like Unreal Tournament.
But hey, if the only complaint I can muster is the multiplayer announcer voice, Id and Bethesda are doing something right.
Also, those of you who bought Wolfenstein: The New Order will be able to play the closed beta between March 31 and April 3.
What did you think of the trailer? Do you agree with me about the announcer, or did you like it?
