If you’ve been paying attention to casting for Independence Day: Resurgence, you knew Brent Spiner (aka Data) was coming back as Dr. Brakish Okun. I didn’t realize that when I first watched the latest trailer and was wondering, ‘wait isn’t this dude dead?’ It turns out, he was only in a coma after being strangled by one of the aliens.
So yeah, Dr. Brakish Okun is back and he still doesn’t “get out much.” Okun keeps his hair and all the eccentric behavior that made him a fan favorite in the first one.
The latest trailer opens with the aliens making a commotion. “They’re not screaming, they’re celebrating,” says Okun. Cue to Bill Pullman’s character getting a taste of what Okun went through in the first movie.
And then shit gets real.
Here’s the full trailer.
I don’t think Jeff Goldblum is going to be able to handle this one with some computer code.
Spiner isn’t the only one returning to Independence Day: Resurgence. Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch are also in.
Man, it sucks Will Smith isn’t going to be in this one. Look, I know After Earth was a dud – but come on. It’s Independence Day.
Now where’s Randy Quaid? If we can have Spiner back, I want Quaid – massive explosions be damned.
What do you think of the latest Independence Day: Resurgence trailer? I was hesitant when I first heard a sequel was coming. But, the first trailer sold me. Yeah, I’m a sucker for Pullman’s Independence Day speech.
