The man behind Civilization, Sid Meier, has a new game coming out in early 2015. Sid Meier’s Starships. Check out the announcement trailer below.
No word on a precise release date or price, but Sid Meier’s Starships will be released on PC, Mac and iPad.
You’ll be managing a fleet of starships as you explore the galaxy. Starships’ inspiration comes from what would happen after the events of Civilization: Beyond Earth.
“What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?” says Meier in a statement.
Meier’s focus this time around centers on “starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.”
If you already play Beyond Earth and plan on picking up Starships, 2K is teasing some kind of cross-connectivity. Buzzwords like ‘enhance’ and ‘expand’ your gaming experience are how 2K explains the integration.
Gamespot reports Starships is being developed by a small team at Firaxis, including Meier.
I’m assuming Starships will cost around $20. I would be shocked if it cost anything more than that, especially with an iPad release. As far as release dates go, games announced for iPads tend to have a quick turnaround from announcement to release. 2K has already said early 2015. It wouldn’t surprise me if we are playing this within a few weeks.
So, what do you think of today’s announcement? Excited? Not really? Let me know in the comments below.
