It’s here and blowing up YouTube. Our first glimpse at Thor: Ragnarok. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has been a favorite character of mine, but the standalone films have always been lacking. I always wanted something that took place on Asgard and beyond, not Earth with pieces of other worlds.

Fresh off the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel is giving the film a blank check to impress the hell out of us. And the trailer jumps right into the action with Hela, the primary villain, stops Mjolnir in mid-flight and shatters the weapon. Marvel, you could have saved that for the film.

The term ‘Ragnarok’ enters the fray when Hela comes to the home of the gods and leaves Asgard in ashes. It’s not all doom and gloom. It’s not a Marvel movie without its lighthearted moments. Thor: Ragnarok gets a Hulk.

Forced to fight in a gladiator tournament, Thor is thrilled when he sees the Hulk, calling him a ‘friend from work.’ Yeah, Banner might be your drinking buddy, but the green fella? The trailer teases a fight between the two. It’s a bit of a misdirection because we know the Hulk has to get back to Earth for the next Avengers film.

The trailer is serious fan service, with Thor getting his helmet from the comics and the overall 80s vibe can’t be missed. Notice the typography throughout the trailer? The colors? It screams Thor might be meeting up with another group of heroes. Here’s hoping he finds a way to meet up with the Guardians, especially Rocket and Groot.

Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Mark Ruffalo. It opens in theaters on November 3, 2017. Here’s the official Marvel synopsis of the film:

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first, he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!
