The first Gears of War 4 trailer is here, and Marcus Fenix has gone full on Stardew Valley on us. Clips of a happier life with Marcus Fenix planting trees as his family looks on are mixed with his son, JD, being chased through a forest.
Be honest. How many of you would pay for a farmer Marcus Fenix multiplayer skin?
The teaser trailer is short, but it does hint at gameplay mechanics. GameInformer’s March cover story of Gears of War 4 pretty much confirms these too.
At 0:26, we see JD shoulder charge through a smoldering tree. The GameInformer story mentioned how you can perform a short distance shoulder charge to knock enemies off balance. It looks like you can also barrel your way through weakened obstacles as well.
The second half of the trailer shows the emphasis The Coalition is placing on weather. Wind, in particular. At 0:38, you can see strong winds push a tree down. Soon after, JD jumps over it and enters cover behind it. Are we seeing dynamic cover? Sure looks like it.
We’ve seen wind in gameplay before at last year’s E3 conference.
But, I believe this is the first time we’ve seen any indication of wind changing cover on this small of a scale.
GameInformer’s Gears of War 4 hub has a ton of information about how The Coalition is approaching the latest Gears game and the new mechanics they are introducing.
