George Zimmerman is a free man after a woman, who accused him of assault, recanted her story. The 31-year old was under investigation in an assault case after he allegedly threw a wine bottle at her and broke her cell phone.
You will remember the story of Zimmerman after he shot and killed 17-year old Trayvon Martin three years ago. Authorities in Lake Martin, FL are dropping the charges after the woman recanted the story over lack of evidence.
“While it is clear that the officers had probable cause to arrest Mr. Zimmerman which was affirmed by the circuit court judge at initial appearances, the subsequent recantation by the victim of her initial statement along with new documents provided by the victim and her attorney precludes my office from proceeding further,” State Attorney Phil Archer said in a statement.
The police report on the incident reported an officer hearing a bottle break and the woman leaving the driveway without her headlights on. Inside the car was her belongings, and she accused George Zimmerman of being a ‘psychopath’.
“The victim denied that Mr. Zimmerman threw a bottle at her and stated that she was never in fear of the Defendant. She also made it clear that she did not want to proceed with the case,” the prosecutor said in a statement. “A lack of eyewitnesses or other corroborating evidence to dispute her version of the incident also contributed to the decision.”
Since his acquittal in the shooting death of Martin, Zimmerman has been arrested several times, but zero charges have stuck.
With this many incidents you have to wonder about his state of mind. Just stay on the straight and narrow at this point. Eventually his luck with the police is going to run out.
