Something bad? Something good? Ah to hell with it. We all know we want a bit of both. Marvel’s roll of the dice on Guardians of the Galaxy paid off in spades when it debuted in 2014 to $800 million at the global box office.
For me? It’s my favorite Marvel movie. Perfect casting, perfect script and the perfect director. We already knew it had a sequel coming; it’s Phase III of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, aka Disney’s personal ATM.
Now we know the title thanks to the good people at Collider. They managed to get Marvel Studios head to slip up with the title. Director James Gunn confirmed the title in a tweet, with a nod towards the team at Collider.

Some are questioning the title as potential sarcasm on Gunn’s part. But, it makes sense. If you saw the movie, at the end, Peter Quill (Star Lord) opens his gift from his dying mother to reveal a Vol. 2 mixtape.
The title makes sense knowing the ending of the first. And, it’s a nod the film isn’t going to take itself too seriously.
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2
With filming set for March 2016, details surrounding the film are sparse. What we know is what Gunn talked about in an interview earlier this year. The sequel would focus more intensely on some of the characters, and we would learn more about the fathers of some.
That’s confirmation without expressly saying we will learn more about Star Lord’s dad. I wonder what the over/under is for a Star Wars reference in the film.
Mark your calendars for May 5, 2017. Chris Pratt (Star Lord) and company get top billing for the summer box office kick off in 2017.
