Heroes of the Storm has been in closed beta for a while. Today, Blizzard announced the official release of their take on MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena).
Heroes of the Storm officially launches on June 2. You can check out it out even earlier when the game enters open beta on May 19.
In the blog post announcing the launch date, Blizzard writes:
Heroes of the Storm will launch with more than 30 playable Heroes, over 130 Skins, 14 steadfast mounts, and 7 dynamic Battlegrounds, each with unique challenges to overcome—and even more Heroes, Skins, Mounts, and Battlegrounds are on the way!
Blizzard describes a “fresh take on the team brawler” with Heroes of the Storm. “Fun, quick, action-packed” battles is what Blizzard is aiming for with their MOBA.
The game will have competitive and cooperative modes.
“We’ve built Heroes of the Storm in a way that makes it accessible to new players, but also challenging enough for veterans who really want to put their skills to the test. We can’t wait to see what Heroes brings to the co-op and competitive scenes once the Nexus opens up to everyone,” said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime.
Heroes of the Storm on ESPN
On April 26, Heroes of the Storm comes to ESPN with the Heroes of the Dorm championship match. The final teams will do battle at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles and “an ESPN network” will carry the matches live in prime time.
I’m guessing ESPN2 since the press release says “an ESPN network.” Still, getting competitive gaming on TV is a big deal.
Blizzard will also celebrate the launch of Heroes of the Storm with a live-streamed event on June 1 in London, U.K. They promise to give further details about this livestream in the coming weeks.
