2016 is almost in the books and gamers are looking to what 2017 game will blow us away. Or, you’re like me and are still starting at games from 2015 you haven’t played. One day.
GameIndustryBiz’s James Batchelor reached out to some of the biggest figures in the gaming industry to see what they are excited for as 2017 inches closer. One of them was Hideo Kojima.
His most anticipated release of 2017? Red Dead Redemption 2. Right on, Kojima! I can’t think of the last time Rockstar Games disappointed me. Hell, I even loved their Table Tennis game back in the day (who else wishes it would become Backward Compatible on Xbox One?).
Red Dead Redemption 2 is an easy pick, but it’s also hard to argue against. Info on the game is sparse, but we do know it will have a heavy online component. After the absurd success of GTA Online, how could it not?
My 2017 pick
I could rattle off a dozen games from Horizon Zero Dawn to Pyre. But my 2017 pick is coming from an established franchise. Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfare was the game on my Xbox 360.
We still haven’t heard much of anything as far as competitive multiplayer goes on Wildlands, which is a bit concerning. We know it’s coming, and it won’t be like The Division, but that’s about all the info I’ve seen on it. As long as there’s structured multiplayer included (i.e. Deathmatch, Last Man Standing), I’m good.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Ubisoft experiment with an open-world multiplayer. Something like H1Z1 KOTK, but more polished.
Rainbow Six: Siege showed me Ubisoft can do tactical shooters right. Let’s see if they can pull a Siege for the third-person tactical shooter crowd.
What game are you excited to play in 2017? I just hope I can tear myself away from Rocket League to play any of them longer than a few hours.
