One of this year’s best surprises is only getting better. A new Hitman update just hit all platforms and brings a host of fixes and requested features. Plus a temporary bug.
You can now use unlockable items when your Comcast decides to crap out. It’s called Offline Profile and lets you unlockable items earned when connected to the game’s server while offline. From the devs: “Items include all mastery items; including weapons, gear, starting/pickup locations as well as Elusive Target suit rewards and Challenge Pack unlocks.”
There is a ‘but’ here. You’ll need to be connected to the game servers to earn new unlocks. It’s not the perfect solution, but it’s a step in the right direction. You’re still screwed if you go long spans without an internet connection. But, it’s a better solution for folks with spotty internet.
Other features focus on quality of life improvements. Opportunity Completion Checkmark does just what it says. It marks an opportunity with a checkmark when it is successfully completed. This will make it easier to keep tabs on opportunity completion as you’re trying to unlock achievements tied to them.
Silent Assassin Rating Display. Hitman will now recognize when you’re a badass assassin.
Major Update to Statistics Page. Statistics pages need to be in all games. Hitman’s is getting a visual overhaul and will display challenge completion, mastery level completion and overall location completion.
Pull an Enemy. Most patch notes don’t come with a bug report included. The devs are adding the ability for 47 to pull people over balconies or out of windows when hanging on a ledge. The problem is the mechanic is bugged. NPC’s won’t care if you snatch a person out of window. Even if they’re looking directly at you. Io Interactive will remove the ability in December’s update, fix it and reintroduce it in January. I guess the devs spotted the bug too late to keep it out of November’s update. Well, it looks like we all get a month to abuse it.
Io hinted at another update coming in December, but didn’t offer much on specifics. “We are also planning a December Update, which we are very excited about as it will wrap up the year nicely and will be a great way for us to wish all of our players a happy holiday season. We’ll have specifics to share as we get a little bit further into December.”
Obvious guesses point to a holiday themed event. And possible images (via NeoGAF) are hinting at just that.
The rest of the patch notes focus on general fixes and fixes on specific platforms.
You still have a chance to pick up Hitman on the cheap if you haven’t already. Xbox One and PSN sales are still going on with the game’s first season going for just $30. I didn’t think Hitman would be in the discussion for one of this year’s best games, but here we are. Io Interactive executed the episodic formula perfectly and crafted a Hitman experience old fans and new will love.
