What started out as a rumor yesterday quickly received one of the weirdest confirmations we’ve ever seen for a video game announcement. The official Call of Duty Twitter dug up an old tweet mentioning a Call of Duty 4 remaster. Here’s the official Twitter response.

Wow. I guess we always knew there would be a day when a big publisher confirmed a game leak with a poop emoji. Now, we wait for a more ‘official’ announcement. Preferably a trailer.
If you haven’t played Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare before, you are in for one hell of a ride. You will experience the game that catapulted the Call of Duty franchise to the top of console gaming, where it remains to this day. It’s the game that dethroned Halo 3 from the top played charts on Xbox Live.
And it had one of the most memorable Call of Duty campaigns ever. ‘All Ghillied Up’ is still remembered as one of the best campaign missions in a shooter ever. Infinity Ward knew it before the game came out and used the mission to reveal Call of Duty 4 at E3 2007.
Would you change anything about Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer?
When we think back on Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, we think of the ‘perfect’ Call of Duty game. A Call of Duty game with just three killstreaks – UAV, Airstrike and a Helicopter. A Call of Duty game without the crazy movement systems we’ve seen in the past two installments. A Call of Duty game where nearly every map was a good one.
But it wasn’t all perfect. Several perks were unbalanced. If you weren’t running Stopping Power, you were playing at a disadvantage. And who can forget the 3x grenade perk?
Shipment matches turned into a giant cluster with grenades exploding across the entire map all the time. Was it awesome? Hell yes. Unless you were on the receiving end.
How will Activision approach the remaster? Will they keep the entire game intact with zero changes? Will some perks like 3x grenades get toned down? It’ll be interesting to see how they handle it.
If I could change anything, it would be 3x grenades. Maybe drop it to two. It was ridiculous back then and would be even more so today. But I wouldn’t complain if Activision opted to keep the game as is. Just being able to play a remastered Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on my Xbox One is going to be awesome.
Activision must have heard my thoughts. The other day I was itching to play Call of Duty 4 again and almost bought a used Xbox 360. But with a remastered version on the way, I can wait.
I can’t wait to dust off my M-16 and revisit the multiplayer that continues to influence games today.
Is there anything you would like to see Activision tweak with the remastered Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare? Or, do you want them to leave it untouched?
