This should get the Internet stirred up. Christian Bale is said to be closing in on a deal to play Steve Jobs in a biopic. Titled Jobs, Sony will produce the film and wants Bale on board. While many will look at his role in the Batman trilogy, they are ignoring the fact the actor really gets into his roles. Just check out the Machinist to see how far he’s willing to go for a part.
The new Jobs follows on the heels of the Ashton Kutcher, who played the title character in last year’s biopic. This new film will be grabbing source material from an official biography. Steve Jobs was written by Walter Isaacson, who was granted 40 interviews with Steve Jobs before he passed away. The biography also contained unrestricted access to his family and friends.
For the film, Sony is pulling out the big guns. It will be helmed by Danny Boyle, the man behind the camera of Slumdog Millionaire. Scripting will go to Aaron Sorkin, known for his work on The Social Network.
Just last week, Leonardo DiCaprio turned down the role in favor of another project. Bale has been in the rumoured to be in the mix with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Bradley Cooper.
The film is almost certain to be Oscar bait, something Christian Bale is used to. He won an Oscar for his role as Dicky Ecklund in 2011’s The Fighter. Expect the casting to cause a stir, because right now Bale doesn’t seem like he fits the role of the iconic CEO.
Just give the man time to get into character, and I’m sure we will be amazed by the transformation. Another bonus is that we don’t have to hear his Batman voice. That’s worth the price of admission alone.
