John Wick Is Back Workin’ On May 17

John Wick Chapter 3

Oh, I’ve been waiting for the third John Wick movie. Now we have an official release date – May 17 – and one of the coolest movie posters in a long time. Keep doing you Keanu. The release date is quite the bold statement from the studio.

John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum is taking the slot as a summer tentpole. It serves as counterprogramming to the onslaught of comic book movies and should do well in May. I know I’ll be there. The John Wick series has single-handedly resurrected the action movie genre thanks to its slick choreography and no shaky cam.

And then there’s Keanu Reeves who throws himself into every role. Check him out training for the second film with three-gun drills. Contrast that with the 50 angles it took to get Liam Neeson over a fence in Taken 3.

Now all we need is a trailer to go along with the poster:

John Wick Chapter 3 poster

That is beyond slick. Whoever in marketing does the graphic design needs a damn raise. Or a stack of gold coins to use at the Continental. Along with the poster, we have the official synopsis for John Wick: Chapter 3.

John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a lifeon Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.

On the casting front, we see the return of old favorites along with the addition of new faces. Along with Keanu, the film stars Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, Anjelica Huston, Halle Berry, Jason Mantzoukas, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tiger Hu Chen, Yayan Ruhian, Cecep Arif Rahman, Lance Reddick, Common, and Ruby Rose. It looks like the professional courtesy paid off for Common.

Now we wait for the trailer which should be at any point now with the release set for May 17.
