Cue the Ian Malcolm laugh. After the kind of numbers it posted all summer, a sequel to Jurassic World was guaranteed. Today, we know when to expect more dinosaurs and Chris Pratt. The sequel to Jurassic World will land in theaters sometime in June 2018.
Besides Pratt, who else is coming back? Bryce Dallas Howard is making her return Colin Trevorrow will be co-writing the script. As for directing duties, nothing has been announced.
Jurassic World came out the gates stunning everyone. Personally, I went to see it with a ton of hesitation. I walked out absolutely loving the film. In a perfect world, Jeff Goldblum would have had a small role, but hey, maybe for the sequel?
The movie has gone on to grab the number three spot for highest grossing movies worldwide. It’s the fourth-highest domestically. We can expect Universal to churn these films out as long as audiences want them. And Chris Pratt? Talk about getting paid.
While the film was generally panned by critics, most cited Pratt’s performance as the highlight of the film thanks to his likeability. Anyone that saw Guardians of the Galaxy knows the guy is Hollywood’s next megastar. Now, sign him on for the Indiana Jones reboot.
It helped that nostalgia was riding high for Jurassic World. Jurassic Park was an event, with the two sequels never quite living up to the first. Enough time had passed that everyone remembers the iconic first movie and the producers delivered one hell a sequel.
Past the announcement of a release date and the characters returning, little is known about the film. The island is still there, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see it incorporated somehow.
I just hope they don’t try to set dinosaurs loose in a major city. Unless it’s done perfectly, it will feel too much like Godzilla.
The 2018 summer release will give Pratt two marquee franchise releases. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 on May 5, 2017 and Jurassic World in June 2018. I can’t wait for both.
