The Discovery Channel keeps raising the bar for absurdity. I will take your walking on a tightrope, and raise you a dude getting swallowed by an Anaconda. Wait, what? Yeah, the Discovery Channel is looking to take event specials to a whole different level next month.
The December 7 reality show will feature filmmaker Paul Rosolie being ‘Eaten Alive’ by an Anaconda in South America. See, this is why I don’t like snakes. No way I’m watching this. Of course Paul survived thanks to his snake proof suit.
What’s the testing on that? Yeah man, fabric feels good. I think you can make it.
The reality show isn’t without some controversy. Critics are claiming Rosolie is just doing this for financial gain, at the expense of hurting animals. He’s defending himself and his crew via his website.
“In the days leading up to Eaten Alive on Discovery Channel, I understand that many people have questions. All I can tell you now is that all my work is based around the fact that wildlife and ecosystems today, across the globe, are at a critical moment. No group of animals so much so as apex predators.”
Discovery is enjoying a ratings windfall after Nik Wallenda completed his latest tightrope stunt. That special drew 6 million viewers, though it was on a 10-second tape delay. Live TV and a guy plummeting to his death do not exactly mix.
I got you Discovery. Nik Wallenda walks across something random while being ‘snacked on’ by an anaconda. Sounds like a winner to me. Check out the trailer for Eaten Alive below, and let us know what you think. Me? I think I’m gonna avoid having this on my DVR.
