Frank Underwood gave me a reason to want a class ring. Who wouldn’t want to end a Starbucks order with a double tap on on the counter? House of Cards is back, and either Netflix is planning to drag this out, or Underwood is set to become king.
Set your smartphone calendars for February 25. Clear your schedules and settle in for an inordinate amount of screen time. Netflix has dropped the teaser to season three of House of Cards, which is shaping up to be even more insane than the second.
Imagery is everywhere in the 45-second teaser. A military funeral with three caskets, massive protests, a foreign leader ignoring Underwood’s hand and Frank trying to put on a brave face as events unfold around him.
Kevin Spacey’s Frank Underwood opens the trailer. “You want to know what takes real courage? Holding it all together when the stakes are this high.”
It doesn’t have the same impact as the second season’s teaser, where he had the memorable line of, ‘democracy is so overrated.’ Luckily for us, the dark nature of the teaser more than makes up for lack of punch in the intro.
“We’re murderers, Francis,” Claire tells her husband at teaser’s end. “We’re survivors,” Frank Underwood replies.
If you go by the teaser, which is a bit dangerous with this show, some supporting characters are looking at bigger roles. Remy Danton, played by Mahershala Ali, looks to be more featured in this season, over season two.
Hacker-turned-government-source Gavin Orsay (Kimmi Simpson) also looks to be featured in the second season. This character is the one I’m most excited about. If anyone can unravel the conspiracies of President Underwood, it will be an outsider.
What are you looking forward to in season two? Who do you think will be the major character death?
