Apple’s been busy this week. First, came reports Apple was interested in acquiring Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion. I’m betting this latest news was a bit cheaper than that.
Apple has hired Ari Partinen. Who is Partinen and why should you care? Partinen previously held the title of senior engineer on Nokia’s Lumia team. Let’s just say he knows a thing or two about cameras phones.
Partinen announced the move on Twitter.
“Today will be my last day working for the amazing #Lumia family. In June I will start a new chapter in Cupertino, California. Much love!” Partinen tweeted.
A second tweet confirmed the move to Apple. “And it is the company you are thinking assuming you are thinking Apple.”
According to his Linkedin profile, Partinen played a pivotal role on Nokia’s PureView smartphone camera technology. He was “Lumia Photography Lead.”
Apple hasn’t commented on its latest hire, but it’s safe to assume he will be involved with cameras on the iPhone and iPad.
Now, before you get excited about the iPhone 6 camera, Partinen had no influence on the upcoming iPhone 6. After all, reports have it set for production starting this month. Apple fans will see Partinen’s influence on the next iteration.
Partinen could be working on the “super-resolution image” tech talked about in a recent patent application.
