Tired of Remakes? This Metal Gear Solid Trailer in Unreal Engine 4 Will Change That

Shadow Moses Unreal Engine 4

Just when I thought I couldn’t take another video game remake, an indie developer comes along with a remake of the first Metal Gear Solid game. And thanks to Unreal Engine 4, it looks fantastic. Here’s the first trailer for Shadow Moses.

“We just need to clarify something: Konami owns the MGS copyright and therefore sooner or later we will need their full permission,” creator Airam Hernandez writes on YouTube. “We have therefore chosen to openly share this project from the beginning so that we can deal with any issues that may arise as they come. We believe this is better than putting years of work into a project only to get it shut down. Please, respect this decision.”

Well, Hernandez seems a lot more optimistic than I am. The fact that Hernandez doesn’t want to make any money may help keep this project alive. But, I wouldn’t put anything past Konami.

Enough about the potential takedown by Konami. Let’s just sit back and admire Hernandez’s work. Man, Unreal Engine 4 looks great. If you can spare two more minutes, relive some childhood memories with GoldenEye 007 in Unreal Engine 4.

Want to see another game remade in Unreal Engine 4? Why not give it a go yourself. Unreal Engine 4 is free (there is a 5% royalty on gross product revenue after the first $3,000 made). Epic has dozens of videos teaching the basics of Unreal Engine 4. You won’t be creating Shadow Moses overnight, but who knows, maybe one day everyone will be talking about your trailer.
