The Xbox team went ahead and knocked out a few Xbox announcements today. Not much new news here, but we do get official confirmation of a 1TB Xbox One console and a new controller.

1TB Xbox One console

If you haven’t bought a new Xbox One yet but plan on going digital for your games – buy the 1TB Xbox One. Hell, Halo: Master Chief Collection will take up damn near 10% of the hard drive space by itself.

My 500GB Xbox One was weeping as I tried to make some room to get Halo: MCC and ODST back on it.

The only noticeable difference besides the hard drive space is the matte finish.

Also, you can always just add an external hard drive via USB 3.0 to get extra space.

The 1TB Xbox One will be available starting next week for $399. The 500GB Xbox One finally gets its permanent price cut to $349.

Updated Xbox One controller

Other big news includes an updated Xbox One Wireless Controller. The big feature here is a 3.5mm stereo headset jack that lets you plug your favorite headphones right into the controller. Finally. I loved having the 3.5mm jack on my PS4 controller. It’s good to see Microsoft refreshing their controller to include it.

You can also adjust headset volume, mic monitoring and voice and game audio balance through the Settings menu on the Xbox One.

Besides audio, Microsoft is also tweaking the bumpers for “more consistent performance anywhere along the full surface of the bumper.” Cool.

And, Microsoft also enabled wireless firmware updates on the updated controller. The updated controller will be available in black and a new camouflage design in silver and black.

And then there’s the price. $64.99 for the updated controller. Damn controllers are expensive! It’s high, but it’s only five bucks more than the current controller.

I will begrudgingly get one. I need my bumpers perfect for Gears of War this fall.

Connect your Xbox One controller wirelessly to your PC

The Xbox team’s final announcement today is the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows. Tired of looking for a micro-USB to use your Xbox One controller with your PC? You won’t have to worry about it this fall.

The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows will retail for $24.99 or $79.95 bundled with a controller.

E3 is all about the games

I like the Xbox team getting these announcements out of the way this week. It gives them more time to focus on the games during E3.

I can’t wait to get our first look at Halo 5: Guardians’ campaign. 343 laid an egg with Halo: MCC, but I’m still pumped for Halo 5: Guardians.

Oh, and a Gears of War remaster? Yes, please.

We’ll also get another look at Rise of the Tomb Raider. I also expect to see more of Below, Scalebound, a new Forza game and more.

What do you think of today’s Xbox announcements and what are you most excited to see at E3 next week?
