It’s a great day for Unicode fans. Unicode 8.0 has been released by the Unicode Consortium. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, 36 new emojis and five emoji modifiers are coming.

Everything from the much-needed taco emoji, unicorns, a face with rolling eyes and a cheese wedge. Why a cheese wedge? Hey, if I want to be a cheese snob, let me.

Included in the lineup are a few that are sure to make national news when someone inevitably screws up. Bigotry with a smile? You can have it with the mosque and synagogue emojis.

I can just see those headlines now. Someone will do it. A lot of people will do it. It shouldn’t have to be said again, but messages you publish on social media are in the public domain. Would you walk around in public acting like an ass? Actually, don’t answer that…

Then there’s a new food emoji sure to give social media companies fits.

Instagram thought the eggplant emoji was too risque for their tastes. How about the hot dog emoji? Dirty minds think alike.

If the company banned the hashtag search for eggplant emoji, you can bet on the hot dog earning the same fate. Most will cry it’s just a food… But, yeah. We know what you’re thinking. It’s the Internet.
