With Amazon hinting at possible price increases to Amazon Prime, Newegg is looking to edge into Amazon’s territory with the release of Newegg Premier. At a price tag of $49.99 per year, the service comes with free three-day shipping, exclusive deals, free returns and discounts on expedited shipping.
The service borrows from Amazon’s famous free two-day shipping and discounted overnight shipping, but that’s where the similarities stop. Newegg doesn’t quite match up with the value Amazon is offering customers. Amazon has its Amazon Instant Video and Kindle Owner’s Lending Library, both of which come with the Amazon Prime subscription.
To kick-off the launch of Newegg Premier, the site is offering a 30-day free trial and 100 Eggpoints that can be used on future purchases. Unless you are a hardcore PC user, it is hard to see this making waves the same way Amazon Prime does. I get what Newegg is doing and definitely applaud it for using Amazon as a way to leverage PR.
Newegg released a statement highlighting the new program.
“We always seek ways to improve the customer experience and implementing a benefit program is the latest example of how we’re making it easier and more rewarding to shop at Newegg.com,” said Soren Mills, chief marketing officer of Newegg North America in a statement. “Free expedited shipping is in itself a great benefit, but beyond that we’re including many other perks to enhance the shopping experience.”
So, if you find yourself buying a ton of products from Newegg, Newegg Premier is a great deal. It is hard to see this breaking through in a way that Amazon Prime has, but it’s worth it for the company.
Also, many have probably noticed this, but the three-day shipping quickly turns into two-day shipping depending on the part of the country you live in. The company definitely arranged its warehouses well.
