The gaming industry is more popular than ever. New figures revealed during EA’s Q1 2016 earnings call show PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sales are 44% higher than their predecessors at the same point in their lifespan.

“We’re now 20 months in and if we go like-for-like on the previous generation, we’re up 44% installed base hardware versus where we were Xbox 360, PS3, et al,” Moore said. “And our attach rate for software is slightly ahead as well. When correcting for full-game downloads, digital full-game downloads and hardware bundles, we’re at 6.1% right now versus 5.9% in the same period in the previous generation.”

The Xbox One is doing good, but the PS4 is blowing it out of the water. Yesterday, Sony announced total lifetime sales of the PS4 now sit at 25.3 million. That is an insane amount of sales. It took the PlayStation 2 more than two and a half years to hit 20 million sales. The PS4 hasn’t even been on the market for two years yet.

In the April-June quarter, Sony added 3 million in PS4 sales. That’s up from 2.7 million in the same period last year.

Last week, Microsoft announced 1.4 million Xbox One and 360 combined sales during the same period. The last lifetime figure we have from Microsoft is 10 million shipped units from last November.

EA’s Moore remains bullish on the console market for the rest of the year. He expects combined sales of the PS4 and Xbox One to reach 49 million units sold by the end of the year.

Madden 16, FIFA 16 and Star Wars: Battlefront

EA’s most popular titles are about to start hitting stores. Madden NFL 16 comes out next month followed by FIFA 16 in September.

Oh, and there’s a little game called Star Wars: Battlefront coming on November 17, 2015. EA is teaming up with Sony for a massive marketing campaign for Star Wars: Battlefront.

Star Wars: Battlefront is going to be one of this year’s biggest titles. The extra push from Sony will only make it bigger.

We will be seeing a lot more of EA’s lineup at Gamescom next week, including Star Wars: Battlefront. A new game mode, new gameplay footage and a new hero type were recently teased.

Gamescom kicks off on August 5th and lasts through August 9th.
