Square Enix is taking video-game promotion to the next level. Just Cause 3 is running one of the crazier video game promotions for the first 90 days of its release.
First thing’s first. You’ll need the ‘Just Cause 3 Day 1 Edition.’ Most of the time you can snag these ‘Day 1 Editions’ during the initial print run of the game, but pre-ordering it will guarantee it. After that, you’ll need to play. A lot.
It’s going to be a race to see who can rack up the most Chaos Points in the first 90 days after Just Cause 3 releases. The person at the top gets wins an island.
One (1) Grand Prize Winner will win ownership rights to an Island, valued at up to $50,000 USD or $50,000 USD in cash. Location of Island to be determined by Sponsor. All taxes and fees associated with purchasing and obtaining of Island (including but not limited to attorney’s fees, escrow, and closing costs) are the responsibility of the Winner. Sponsor does not guarantee the Island to be inhabitable, developed or reachable by any means other than a boat.
A $50,000 island? Yeah… That’s not going to buy much. Plus, I’m responsible for fees and taxes associated with the purchase of the island? I’ll take the $50k in cash instead.
What can around $50k buy you? How about this picturesque island off the coast of Maine.
What you see isn’t always what you get. Described as “an acre more or less,” this rock known as Chandler Island gives you “more or less” depending on the tide. Stretch out your legs at low tide, but watch out when high tide rolls in. This rock quickly shrinks to about half an acre in size.
What about an island you can actually swim from for more than a month or two? Good luck finding one that costs just $50,000. A quick peek at Private Islands Online shows islands in tropical locales quickly jump to $150,000+.
Here’s Lark Caye in Belize. Described as “beautiful 2.2 acres property is located on the northeast side of Lark Caye, 6 miles from the wonderfully charming village of Placencia.”
One of its selling points? “Cell phone reception works well.”
And that’s for $175,000.
The ‘Win an Island’ contest is cool marketing, but don’t expect much if you’re trying to win. $50,000 is going to get you about an acre, probably less. Take the cash instead.
Just Cause 3’s release date is set for December 1st.
