My current game of the year (if we go by hours played) is getting a new mode. And it’s all thanks to the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds community.
Last month, several prominent Twitch/YouTube folks created a makeshift Zombies mode. A team of five stocked up on weapons while the rest charged at them armed only with frying pans, machetes or sickles. The result was pure insanity and looked like a hell of a lot of fun to play.
Bluehole, the dev behind Battlegrounds, agrees. No word on when the mode is coming officially to the game, but it’ll come with new visual touches and animations. Check it out.
Inspired by @PUBGpartners on @Twitch, zombies are coming to PUBG. There’s no ETA yet but here’s a sneak peek. #PUBGxE3 pic.twitter.com/IKKAZnl4Ml

Just to be clear, this is a new game mode. Zombies are not coming to the standard Battle Royale we’ve been playing over the past few months.
Bluehole stressed there was no timetable to adding this mode. Server optimization is the main focus for June’s monthly update. Optimization won’t end this month, but Bluehole hopes to solve many of the issues still plaguing players.
I’ve noticed an uptick in lag spikes, especially at the beginning of matches. It seems to smooth out once a few dozen players die. Hopefully, this optimization pass will fix whatever is causing it.
As for this week’s update? Bluehole is delaying it until next week.
We’ll take this time to test existing features & systems that were improved. Thank you for your understanding.

This doesn’t affect the monthly update which is still on track for later this month. And will bring a new weapon.
Here’s a better look at the new weapon, the 7.62mm Groza Bullpup AR, being added to @PUBATTLEGROUNDS in our June update… pic.twitter.com/8f8vIs8bKH

New guns are cool and all, but I need this now.

Just don’t go adding iron bars to most of the windows now, Bluehole.
