How does listening to your favorite playlist sound while you cruise around on DriveClub? Soon, you’ll be doing just that. Sony has announced “a new music destination called Playstation Music.” And, Spotify is the exclusive partner.
Playstation Music with Spotify will be hitting 41 markets around the world this spring.
Sony promises Playstation Music will be easy and simple to use. You will link your PSN account to Spotify and have instant access to any playlists you have on the service.
Eric Lempel, VP of Sony Entertainment, highlighted the best part in a blog post:
You can also use Spotify while playing games on PS4, enabling you to soundtrack your gaming sessions with your favorite songs in the background. Want something heavy and rocking for an intense Destiny Raid? How about some old school hip hop while taking the field in Madden NFL? With more than 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists, Spotify on PlayStation Music has it covered.
Playstation Music will be making its way to PS4 and PS3 at first. Xperia smartphones and tablets will also be supported.
As for Sony’s current music feature, Music Unlimited? That service will close down on March 29, 2015. According to Sony, “nearly” all of the markets with Music Unlimited will also have see Playstation Music launch this spring.
With Music Unlimited closing on March 29th, you have to think Playstation Music will launch somewhere around then.
I’m pumped for this feature. Who wouldn’t want to listen to some tunes while slaying demons in Diablo.
It will be interesting to see how much subscriber growth Spotify sees with this move. Do you plan on picking up a premium subscription after today’s announcement?
