2014’s best shooter wasn’t Call of Duty. Nope, it was Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare. I was late to the PvZ bandwagon (thanks EA Access), but that won’t happen again. The folks at EA and PopCap Games are feeling confident with their sequel. Starting next Thursday (January 14), everyone with a Xbox One or PS4 can give it a shot.
Are you wondering why so many people love PvZ? Give this trailer a watch. It perfectly captures the quirkiness that is PvZ Garden Warfare.
Beneath the crazy characters and cartoony aesthetic is a surprisingly deep game. Best of all? It’s fun for the whole family. I can’t play Gears of War with my nephew. But PvZ is perfect.
PvZ Garden Warfare 2 Beta Maps, Modes and More
Next week’s beta opens up a good chunk of PvZ Garden Warfare 2 to everyone. 4 maps, 6 game modes and PvZ 2’s new characters will be playable.
Here are the specifics:
Herbal Assault – On the Moon Base Z map. Play as the plants on the attack in this all-new 24 player game mode.
Gardens & Graveyards – On the Seeds of Time map. Go classic with a zombie attack and plant defense, where the plants must defend the gardens and prevent the zombies from capturing them all.
Team Vanquish Vanquish Confirmed Gnome Bomb Suburbination
Z-Tech Factory Frosty Creek
Plus, you can take a cast of new characters for a spin including Kernel Corn, Rose, Citron, Imp & Z-Mech, Super Brainz and Captain Deadbeard. These unique characters join the original cast of Garden Warfare. Here’s a trailer highlighting each character and their special abilities.
Portions of Backyard Battleground will also be open during the beta. Remember the Flag of Power mode from the last trailer? It’s playable. The Stats Room and Quest Board will also be open during the four-day beta.
I know what I’m going to be doing next Thursday. If you never played PvZ Garden Warfare, give the beta a shot. You might be surprised. All PopCap Games needs to do is build off the first one, and it looks like that’s exactly what they did.
PvZ Garden Warfare 2 officially launches on February 23. Since it’s an EA published game, look for it to show up on EA Access five days before its official release.
