I know, the second Avengers isn’t out yet and everyone is buzzing about the third Captain America. With good reason. Easily one of my top movies for 2014, Captain America hit all the right notes as the premiere Marvel franchise. It was darker, action-packed and insanely rewatchable.
The Russo brothers nailed their first Marvel movie, and now Captain America: Civil War has everyone hyped. Who is coming back to the franchise? Of course Chris Evans as Cap, Anthony Mackie as Falcon and Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury.
Returning to the cast will be Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier. The addition of Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man is what I’m pumped about.
Anthony Russo laid out the major cast: “Captain America 3 is gonna be called Captain America: Civil War and it’s going to star Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson will be back, Winter Soldier [Sebastian Stan] will be back, and Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man will also be joining us in the next film.”
Joe Russo teased what will be a great sequence in the film. “The new element in this film is that Captain America and Iron Man get into a fight with each other.”
Readers of the comics know exactly where this is heading – one of the major plots of the Marvel comics is the civil war that erupts between our superheroes.
It wouldn’t be a Marvel movie without the introduction of a major character. Chadwick Boseman is set to appear in the movie as Black Panther, ahead of the major theatrical release of a standalone Black Panther on November 3, 2017. Yeah, Marvel just prints money at this point.
Captain America: Civil War bows in theaters on May 6, 2016.
