Well, this is sure to excite Assassin’s Creed fans. According to a report from Moviepilot, which has since been taken down, Robert Downey Jr. signed on to play Leonardo da Vinci in the movie adaption to the popular video game franchise.
This rumor would put the Assassin’s Creed setting squarely around Assassin’s Creed II and its subsequent releases when the renowned inventor appeared.
Next year’s Assassin’s Creed movie already has some solid star power behind it. Michael Fassbender is still starring in the upcoming film, presumably in the leading role. If the Leonardo da Vinci rumor holds true, that would put Fassbender in Ezio Auditore’s shoes.
As for directing duties, Justin Kurzel was tapped in April.
With a release date of May 22, 2015, they better get busy if they plan on hitting that date.
On the videogame side of things, the Assassin’s Creed franchise is getting two releases this year. Assassin’s Creed Unity will hit PC, Xbox One and PS4 November 11. Unity takes place during the turbulent French Revolution in the 18th century.
Assassin’s Creed Rogue also release on November 11, but only for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Rogue changes up the Assassin’s Creed formula a bit as you step into the shoes of Shay Patrick Cormac. Your assassin brothers end up becoming your targets with the French and Indian War serving as a backdrop. Fans of Assassin’s Creed’s naval combat will want to hang on to their old systems for AC: Rogue.
