One drug thread. Yeah…
Racism? Ah, that’s cool comrade. Sexism? Hell, give it to them with a side of not-safe-for-life pictures or videos. Name anything remotely objectionable and Russia is completely cool with it.
It doesn’t even care about the countless threads denouncing its actions in eastern Ukraine.
Talk about how to grow cannabis on Reddit? Oh hell no. You’ve pissed off the mighty Russian empire. Wait, Putin can’t find the keys to the tank division? Well, that’s just sad. I think there’s an app for that.
Oh, I know how he can search for it. Reddit. Just a thought…
Roskomnadzor, the Russian equivalent to the FCC announced on Vkontakte (think Russian Facebook) it had asked Reddit to remove a thread about growing cannabis. Reddit’s reply? Well, after Reddit Googled or Alphabetted Roskomnadzor, it’s been radio silence.
The request for the thread removal comes from Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service. If Reddit refuses to comply, Russia reserves the right to block the site completely.
But the threat isn’t without a plea for Russian redditors to help the cause of the Kremlin. A rough translation of the Vkontakte post reads:
“Those who have contacts with the [Reddit] administration – ask them to check their email for messages from Roskomnadzor, otherwise… a number of operators may block the entire site.”
Comrades, please kindly check your email, or we will nuke your site. Passive aggressive much?
It isn’t the first time Russian authorities have lashed out over marijuana. It threatened to block Wikipedia over a cannabis smoking entry. Wikipedia. Over marijuana. Seriously Moscow…
I think I know why they are so damn agitated.
The full name of Roskomnadzor is the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom Information Technologies and Mass Communications. I’d be pissed all the time too.
You know what chills you out? A hookup from r/trees. Hey, I won’t say anything if you don’t. Just share the wealth. A little communism does anger issues good.
