Well, I did not see this one coming. Most throwback, crowd-funded games are based on games that were good. Seems like anything can be crowd funded these days.
So, how much are Shaq and Big Deez Productions asking? $450,000. $2,500 has already been raised and there’s 46 day left. It’ll get funded. Just because of the ridiculousness of it all.
The developer describes themselves as a “team of video game industry professionals that comes from legendary projects like HALO, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Alan Wake, Spec Ops: The Line, Battlefield, Killzone, Max Payne, Duke Nukem, and many other huge franchises.”
Big Deez Productions promises Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn will be nothing like the original title. A title so bad a website, Shaqfu.com, was created and dedicated to the destruction of all remaining copies of the game. That’s E.T. levels of hate right there.
Many of you are probably wondering why is this even being crowd funded? Couldn’t Shaq fund this himself? Shaq and Big Deez Productions are fronting a good portion of the money to fund this title. The Indiegogo campaign is more about measuring gamers’ interest.
Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn will ditch the Mortal Kombat-esque gameplay of the original and go for something more along the lines of Streets of Rage. Big Deez Productions describes it as “Streets of Rage meets Street Fighter meets Devil May Cry.”
The crowd funding campaign gives us something awesome already. Shaq in a mo-cap suit. This won’t give you nightmares tonight. Check out The Big Aristotle below.
