It’s hard not to love the Ford Mustang Ecoboost. Aggressive styling, decent mpg and some power. You know there’s a but coming. You want a little more badass to match the Mustang parked outside. Shelby is here with an upgrade package to give you just that.
The new Shelby GTE upgrade package is that ticket (pun intended) for the new 5.0L GT and Mustang Ecoboost. For $17,999, Shelby will tune your Ecoboost and bring the horsepower number to 340 hp with 390 lb-ft of torque. That’ll get you in trouble. For Mustang GT owners, the horsepower kick is a bit more sizeable. You end up with 456 hp and 424 lb-ft torque. Get a radar detector. Just trust me.
For GT owners, Shelby isn’t stopping there. If you want to spend the cash, they can have your GT barking tires in the 670-750 hp+ range with a Shelby supercharger. It’s a gateway drug. Once the dyno numbers start ticking higher, it’s hard to stop.
Shelby’s GTE package isn’t just about engine tuning. It adds Ford Performance wheels, Shelby upper and lower grilles, a performance splitter a Shelby GTE hood, rocker panels, spoiler and GTE striping and badging.
Personally, I’d ditch the badging. If you have an Ecoboost Mustang, why not have some fun at the expense of the car next to you at the red light? Having a sports car that eschews the badging and branding is more fun. Take the 2015 Roush Mustang. The Mustang logo is gone, and most of the badging is too subtle and instantly earns the head snaps as you drive by.
Sometimes it pays to be subtle until you stomp the accelerator. Check out Shelby for more details on how the company will happily guarantee you will become a speed traps favorite target.
