We sure love shooting Nazis in the face in slow-motion. Rebellion is back with another Sniper Elite, and we’re still winning World War II one shot at a time. This time around we’re in Italy.
“Set in the aftermath of its award-winning predecessor, Sniper Elite 4 continues the series’ World War Two heritage by transporting players across the beautiful Italian peninsula, from sun-drenched Mediterranean coastal towns, to colossal Nazi mega structures, daunting forests and giddying mountain monasteries inspired by Monte Cassino.
Covert agent and elite marksman Karl Fairburne must fight alongside the brave men and women of the Italian Resistance to help free their country from the yoke of Fascism, and defeat a terrifying new threat with the potential to halt the Allied fightback in Europe before it’s even begun.
If his mission fails, there will be no Operation Overlord, no D-Day landings, and no Victory in Europe.”
Rebellion also announced the series has surpassed 10+ million copies sold.
Here’s the trailer.
Damn, for a second there I thought Rebellion was doing a crossover with Just Cause 3. The graphics look solid, which is to be expected. Sniper Elite 4 is the first in the series to be “built from the ground-up for next-generation hardware.” Sniper Elite 4 should look good no matter what platform you go with. Xbox One and PS4 versions will both run in native 1080p. Co-op with two players is in for the “expansive campaign.” Several multiplayer modes are also included.
The advantages of developing solely on current generation hardware aren’t just for the graphics. “Sniper Elite 4 aims to deliver the definitive World War Two shooter for a generation, with unrivalled sniping freedom across maps many times the size of those seen in Sniper Elite 3,” says Rebellion.
I’m a sucker for Rebellion’s trademark slow-motion sniper gameplay, so I’ll be there day one. No specific date has been announced, but Sniper Elite 4 will release later this year.
Here’s one more screenshot showing what appears to be the last area seen in the trailer. The bridge and the artillery piece look identical. I imagine the trailer is pulling back to just before gameplay begins for that mission.
Many of us clamor for World War II shooters all the time. Rebellion continues to fill that need. Are you on board for another Sniper Elite?
