I don’t know who has the time to play all these games, but it’s a great problem to have. Own a Xbox One? You have your pick of two fantastic shooters to play today.
First up, The Division. The open beta is live. Your progress from the closed beta does not carry over, so you’ll want to breeze through story and side missions before diving into the Dark Zone. We got a sneak peek of a new mission in yesterday’s open beta trailer.
I’ll be firing it up tonight and blasting folks as they try to extract weapons. Yep, I’m that guy. Sorry. H1Z1 and DayZ taught me to trust no one in these type of games.
The open beta brings a host of tweaks including significant increases to NPCs in the Dark Zone and fixing issues where players were invisible. Props to Ubisoft Massive for fixing these issues quickly. It’s easy to look at these betas as little more than demos, but developers do use them to fix issues ahead of a game’s official release.
Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 Hits EA Access
EA Access is one of the biggest surprises in gaming over the past couple years. Who would have thought a subscription service from EA would turn out so well?
Starting today, EA Access users (and Origin Access on PC) can play Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare for ten hours. The Division or PvZ? Decisions, decisions. I know what my nephew is going to want to play.
That’s what I love about PvZ. It’s fun for the whole family. It’s a solid shooter, and the aesthetics make it fun for kids. I like Call of Duty as much as the next person, but my nephew isn’t quite old enough to blast players to bloody pieces. Yet.
Here are a few things you need to know about PvZGW 2.
There is no split-screen online in Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2. This is a bummer. Here’s the info from the FAQ: That’s right – from the comfort of your own couch you and a friend can enjoy every mode of the game in split screen, and even play on opposing sides! You will be able to play co-operatively with a friend online, but it will not be split screen.
There is a campaign. PopCap Games (the developer) is changing things up with PvZ 2. Instead of the usual menu system, you’re dropped into a hub world called Backyard Battleground. PopCap calls it “your personalized playground.” And in this playground, are missions centered around the new plant and zombie heroes.
If you haven’t played Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 yet, change that. Now. For everyone else? Try not to go through your ten hours in two days.
