The Game Awards will celebrate the best games over the past 12 months. But let’s be honest, we’re tuning in for the trailers. The man behind the show, Geoff Keighley, wants developers to show their games. Not CGI trailers. Pure gameplay. He wants developers to “be more transparent about the state of their game.”
Good. It’s better for both developers and gamers. Developers don’t dig themselves into a hole they can’t crawl out of, and gamers get a better look at what they’ll actually be playing.
Besides jamming out to Mick Gordon and Doom’s BFG Division, here’s the trailers and reveals we can expect tonight:
Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

A game from Yacht Club Games (this is probably Spectre Knight).
Lawbreakers (CliffyB’s shooter).

Mass Effect: Andromeda gameplay (first gameplay reveal besides the tech demo).
Telltale’s The Walking Dead: A New Frontier.
Rocket League’s next update will be shown during the pre-show (8:30 pm EST).

A look back at 2015
Let’s look back to 2015 for clues on what to expect. The trailers included:
Where the Water Tastes like Wine
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn
Telltale’s Batman game
Far Cry Primal
Rock Band VR
Shadow Complex Remastered
Rocket League on Xbox One
The Walking Dead: Michonne
Rise of the Tomb Raider (DLC)
Halo 5: Guardians (DLC)
Mortal Kombat X (DLC)
15 trailers in all. We know of six for sure during tonight’s show.
When and how to watch
The when starts with the pre-show at 8:30 pm EST. The Game Awards officially kicks off at 9:00 pm EST.
The how is pretty much anywhere on the internet. Twitch and YouTube to Twitter and Snapchat. Here are a couple of links to keep bookmarked:
What I want to see
I’m not expecting gameplay of Red Dead Redemption, but there are a few reveals I would like to see. Hitman Season 2, Ghost Recon: Wildlands and whatever Hideo Kojima is cooking up would be nice.
What are you hyped to see from tonight’s show?
