“Let me be what I’m meant to be” – Frank Castle. Yep, the Punisher still going to punish.

The Punisher’s second season is coming next week, but Netflix wanted to give us a good look at all the glorious Punisher action before it debuts. Let’s hope we didn’t see all the good action scenes that season 2 has to offer in the two-and-a-half minute trailer.

The brutal action kicks off as Frank defends his new companion Amy Bendix from a group of bad guys. Who are they? That’s still a mystery, but they are going to team up with Frank’s former best friend turned battered enemy Billy Russo.

Despite an utter beatdown at the end of season 1, Russo isn’t looking too shabby. Yeah, his face is scarred up – but I expected him to look much worse (and menacing). Russo’s scars push him to wear a mask and call himself Jigsaw. And with a new crew of bad guys to help him, go after Castle.

Everything about today’s trailer is fantastic. The action, the music, Jigsaw (more scars would have been nice, but I get it). It’s all looking great.

But with the excitement for more Punisher, comes what we all suspect is the inevitable end. With Disney launching a streaming service of its own, Netflix is backing away from its Marvel shows. Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Iron Fist are all done. The Punisher and Jessica Jones are the only ones still standing.

Will The Punisher be next? It sure feels like it. Then again, a part of me is holding out hope. A show like The Punisher won’t have a home on what I assume will be a much more family-oriented streaming service that Disney is creating.

But who knows about all the business stuff going on behind the scenes. Netflix is probably more keen on owning its original shows like The Last Kingdom and Altered Carbon.

If this is going to be Frank Castle’s last hurrah, at least give us a definitive end. Don’t tease anything if you’re not going to follow through. The Punisher’s second season hits Netflix on January 18.
