Yesterday’s announcement of New Game Plus for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was cheered by Witcher fans. Following the news, fans poured into The Witcher 3 forums to ask questions about the mode.
Community manager Marcin Momot answered several questions. Like most games with NG+, enemies will be stronger in The Witcher 3.
Player experience and items, money and alchemy recipes will carry over. There were some caveats, though. Quest items, books & letters, Gwent cards, usable items and trophies are excluded. Gwent cards not carrying over is an odd exclusion.
Beat the game, but didn’t quite make it to level 30? NG+ will automatically bump you up.
Momot also said you can select any difficulty level when starting NG+.
Want to play the game completely different in your second playthrough? CD Projekt Red will give you a free Clearing Potion at the beginning of NG+ so you can reset your skills and try out a different build.
You’ll also be able to earn the ‘Death March’ achievement through NG+.
New Game Plus is the sixteenth and last piece of free Witcher 3 DLC. Next up? Paid expansions. Heart of Stone is coming in October and Blood and Wine is coming early next year. Together, the two expansions will add another 30 hours of gameplay according to CD Projekt Red.
Blood and Wine is the bigger of the two expansions. A new zone, Toussaint, will be introduced. Toussaint is described as “a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.” CD Projekt Red says Blood and Wine will release in the first quarter of 2016.
New Game Plus will keep Witcher 3 fans busy until Heart of Stone releases in October. I’m just hoping I can finish The Witcher 3 and play some NG+ before October comes. That’s if I can ever put down Rocket League. There’s an embarrassment of riches in games right now and it’s a fantastic problem to have.
