The age of Jon Stewart ends on August 6. It’s the date for his last show and paves the way for the new host, Trevor Noah. Mark your calendars for September 28 to see how the young host handles the big stage.
To mark the announcement, Noah filmed a short bit at the Daily Show desk fooling around before being surprised by Jon Stewart. Damn, does he have to leave right as the 2016 election cycle hits?
When he announced his final show set for August 6, Stewart did lay out a few promises:
“I will be wearing a suit. I will, more than likely, be showered.I’m sorry—I’ll be wearing overalls, and I won’t shower.”
You know the anchors at CNN and Fox have to be breathing a sigh of relief. He’s used them as foils so much over the past year, the show nearly writes itself. Just turn on one of the two networks and try not to shake your head at the absurdity.
As for Trevor Noah, he’s been beyond gracious as he ascends to the anchor desk.
“It’s an honor to follow Jon Stewart. He and the team at The Daily Show have created an incredible show whose impact is felt all over the world. In my brief time with the show they’ve made me feel so welcome. I’m excited to get started and work with such a fantastic group of people.”
Yes, there was a bit of controversy when outlets dug up old tweets of jokes, but Comedy Central stuck by him. With good reason. He’s a comic. Jokes will bomb, and some will be crude.
Jon Stewart also stuck by him and endorsed him as his replacement.
“I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor,” Stewart said in a statement. “He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with…In fact, I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!”
That would be great. Jon Stewart at the Republican and Democrat conventions next year? Where the hell is the petition for that?
While everyone waits for Noah’s ‘new and sexy’ take on the Daily Show, we can rest a bit easy. He has the RNC and DNC primary debates to grab unlimited material. At last count, nearly every GOPer in the country has declared a bid for the White House. Democrats? There’s just as many unofficial candidates.
It’s a recipe for who can say the most ignorant thing possible? The winner of that contest will be Trevor Noah and the new Daily Show.
